Brenda J. Hiatt

October 5, 1956 -- November 14, 1974

Brenda Hiatt was a very talented and beautiful person; if anyone ever took the time to talk to her or read her poetry, they would have found out. She was a loner in school.

One day in PE, I noticed her writing in her notebook. She never dressed out, and you could always catch her sitting up in the risers if she came to class.

One day I decided to check out what she was writing about. At first she was very defensive as to my questions of what she was writing about, but gradually, she let me into her world.

She had a very keen insight to things most teenagers never contemplate about life. She was mysterious and interesting.

She died the summer we graduated. And I am glad I got to know her, even though it was a brief moment in time. My life has been enriched knowing this lovely creature, and I will always remember her.

--Vickie Lopez Sellars

Brenda Hiatt died from a drug overdose November 14, 1974, just 40 days after her 18th birthday.
