I could say a lot about Ernie Velasquez, depending on which Ernie Velasquez we were discussing.
This, of course, is considering that I knew his brother, Louie, more than I knew Ernie … through our mutual love of music.
Not that Ernie wasn't into music himself -- he played the drums (Louie, as you all know, played the tenor saxophone; I played the trombone).
The Ernie Velasquez I knew could be ready to fight at the drop of a hat, but ready to help when needed.
In a way, all of us are like Ernie. And if you were his friend, he was a heck of a guy to have standing with you.
Ernie Velasquez was the victim of a homicide December 19, 1977, shot to death during a robbery at a convenience store. He was 21 years old.
