James Morgan Beal
"Jimmy"

August 29, 1956 -- January 2, 2002

We don't stop learning just because we're no longer in school. Although many of you only knew Jim from school, I had the joy of him being a part of my life … and what a wonderful life together it was. He was an amazing man! He taught me to love, to be caring, to listen, to be patient, to be grateful for what you have, to be understanding, to enjoy life, and so much more. Even after his death, I am still realizing how truly blessed I was to have him.

We created a family together, just us and our two beautiful daughters. The love we shared is something I pray that all of you have or will have a chance to share with your someone. It's something that no one can ever take from us. And someday, it will be my job to make sure that our grandchildren know the great man their grandfather was!

When Jim was dying of cancer and he knew it would only be a short while before he had to go, my sister told him, "If you can, send us a feather to let us know you're still with us." And he promised that we would! She even placed three hawk feathers in his casket.

As I was walking out of the funeral home, a bird feather came blowing in the door and stopped at my feet. I know in my heart that it was Jim letting me know he was still right next to me … just as he had been for the last 25 years … and we be always.

Your journey through life will take you many places. As you travel through, and you come across a feather or you're blessed to see a hawk, please stop and think of him.

This awesome man … Jimmy, James, Skinny or Jim, whatever you called him…

… he shall never be forgotten.

It was a very sad day to see so many young people that are no longer with us. I lost a GREAT BROTHER the day Jim died. Although he is gone, he will live on forever in my heart.

I just look for the feathers …

Jimmy Beal fought a very brave and courageous battle against lung and stomach cancer during the last year of his life.

He lost that battle January 2, 2002 at the age of 45.
