Words sometimes are not easy to come by, especially when you're eulogizing someone you've competed with … and against.
In regards to Phil Silva, I had the privilege of doing both during my days playing Senior League baseball … and I found out that it's much easier being on his team rather than facing him in the batter's box when he's on the pitcher's mound.
And I'll let it go at that.
His sudden death from a heart attack in Las Vegas on September 15, 1999 was indeed a shock to all of us.
