Stan Johnson was THE big man on campus, no question. He stood 6 feet, 5 inches toward Heaven, and weighed 270 pounds.
But as big as Stan was, he was also a gentle soul. A very soft-spoken person who was content to work on the sidelines managing the Broncos' football team, rather than being out there on the trenches on the front line.
Once out of high school, Stan served his community as a firefighter with the Banning Fire Department until an injury ended his career.
Yet, he continued to serve his community as a member of the Bronco Booster Club, and could be seen -- and heard -- as the public address announcer for Bronco football and basketball after longtime announcer Paul Alloway retired.
But his size would take a toll on his heart.
All of us went into mourning on August 7, 2001 when a heart attack suddenly claimed the life of this gentle giant, just three months shy of his 45th birthday.
Stan Johnson was hard to miss in life. He will be even harder to miss in death.
